Speaking: Rémi Vaquin – Forwards coach

The training camp is always a special time in the season because it’s the first time we’ll be living together, even off the pitch, which we don’t usually do.
It’s a chance to build connections, take the time to hold extra meetings and spend a bit of time together to kick-start team spirit and group dynamics for the season.

Today, we’re on the eve of a match – a pre-season friendly – which we’re playing in Angoulême. So, let’s say we’re fine-tuning everything we need to get to grips with, to have a basic understanding ahead of the first pre-season match. I reckon this must be the tenth time I’ve been to this area; it’s always very pleasant. We’ve also come to enjoy the fresh air by the sea; there’s a nice breeze. It’s cooler than in Agen. The conditions are ideal for top-level sport: the food, the welcome, the accommodation – everything’s great.

We’re starting our final phase of preparation before the league kicks off. So we’ve had what you might call an intense pre-season. We’ve eased off a bit today – the session’s a bit longer but less intense, shall we say – so we can have a bit of energy left for tomorrow’s first match.
