The Spanish women’s national team, ‘Las Leones’, arrived in Soustons at the end of August 2026 to prepare for major international competitions in the idyllic setting of L’Isle Verte. Stéphane Seddiki’s team is pampering these elite athletes, ensuring their preparation feels just like being at home. Head coach Régis Sonnes and Amalia Argudo (a Spanish player for Stade Toulousain) look back together on the training camp organised by the national team.

Speaking on the mic, Régis Sonnes, coach of the Spanish women’s rugby team

WHAT IS THE AIM OF YOUR TRAINING CAMP?

We’ll be in Hong Kong for the whole of September; we’ll be playing Fiji, Samoa and Brazil, and then we’ll return to Seville to play South Africa. So this training camp is, firstly, to get back into the swing of things at the start of the season, and secondly, to prepare for our tour in two weeks’ time.
So today’s session was almost a full-scale, high-intensity test to assess where we stand, identify what we’re lacking and work out what we need to move forward and improve.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE VENUE AS HEAD COACH?

I’m from round here myself; we know it very well and I used to come here even when I was a lad. So I know the centre very well – we’ve got everything we need here. It’s a magnificent setting and all the facilities are perfectly suited to us and our development.

… AND AS AN ATHLETE?

Speaking on the mic is Amàlia Argudo, a versatile international player who plays in the fly-half or full-back positions in both 15-a-side and sevens, and who also plays for Stade Toulousain.

After that, at this centre too, I came with the Spanish women’s 7s team.
I also took part in several training camps with the French team and teams from other countries to play a bit amongst ourselves. So, basically, you’ve got everything you need for a good atmosphere, a warm welcome and the chance to train properly.
